                              Memorial Day Inspiration
You recently reported that veterans lament the low turnout for Memorial Day observances. It's true. As memories of wars and battles fade, so too it seems do those who remember and take the time to reflect on the holiday and meaning. 

I'm grateful to a friend who told me about this year's Memorial day service held at Los Gatos Memorial Park. It was a wonderful morning with warm nostalgic music from the San Jose Metropolitan Band, moving services and words. People were respectful, unhurried and polite. 

The presence of the veterans struck me most. Many were aged, in wheel chairs and with canes. But they all had a bearing and sparkle that made this day very special. The music, the simple words and service were an eloquent tribute to those we honor and remember. 

I didn't want to leave the park when the service ended. But when I did, I felt good and the new spring in my step made me smile. Thank you veterans, for helping me remember.
